Slaps Exotic Lightning Rod Vendors, October 2005.
Summary: The final judgment and final injunction have been
issued by the U.S. District Court in Arizona against purveyors of
non-conventional lightning protection devices. The court recognized that the
manufacturers' claims of significantly enhanced zones of protection for these
devices are not supported by reliable scientific research.

Standards Council releases final decision regarding non-conventional lightning
protection systems, January 2005.

Summary: The National Fire Protection Association, publisher of
the National Electrical Code and Standard 780 for the Installation of
Lightning Protection Systems, has denied a request to establish a project to
address Dissipation Array Systems (DAS), also referred to as Charge Transfer
Systems (CTS). The submissions that accompanied the request do not `make a
showing that there is ample basis in the scientific and technical literature
to support meaningful standards development for DAS/CTS lightning protection
systems.'

Summary: UL has reaffirmed its commitment to providing independent, reliable
certification of lightning protection installations that comply with
nationally recognized standards.

AMS Statement on Lightning Protection Systems, Bulletin
of the American Meteorological Society, January 2003
Summary: `The members of the AMS Committee on Atmospheric Electricity have
reviewed the modern practices of lightning protection and have concluded that
NFPA 780 is a useful standard with a sound scientific basis. The Society
recognizes the need for a lightning protection standard and supports the
current American edition specifying the installation of lightning protection
systems.'
